Mandiri Training Foundation

Realising Potential and Promoting Independence

The Challenge

This challenge is open to any well found dinghy, multihull  or open keelboat (i.e. any boat that does not have ‘built in’ accommodation). who are aiming to use the challenge to raise funds for Mandiri Training Foundation.

The rules are simple:

1. That you proceed safely and in a seamanlike manner

2. That you use an open boat that does not have ‘built in accommodation’.

3. Sail is the prime motive power used but paddling, rowing, wading etc are acceptable as auxiliaries where conditions demand.

4. That you use the event to raise funds for Mandiri Training Foundation

5. The course should be completed as one journey. Anchoring to wait for the tide is acceptable but overnight stops ashore are not!

The primary challenge course is:

1. Start at or near Bosham Sailing Club Transit..

2. Nab tower to Starboard

3. St Catherine’s Point to starboard

4. Needles Fairway Mark to Port

5. Swash Channel mark (Studland Bay) to Starboard

6. Cowes to Starboard

7. Finish at Bosham Sailing Club Transit

Alternative marks may be used for convenience as long as the overall length of the course is of around 90 Nautical Miles or more. Sailors living away from the South Coast may nominate their own challenge course.

This challenge is not intended as a race and nor is it intended to push man and machine to the limit. We see no reason why several craft should not take the challenge together and it relies upon your honesty in recording completion of the course and time taken
